
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a fresh investigation into the assassination of Tom Mboya, following a startling confession by a 92-year-old man. The man, Ndwiga Kathamba, admitted to purchasing the pistol used in the murder of the prominent Kenyan statesman.
The confession was made public in an article published by the Saturday Nation on July 6, 2024. The DCI quickly responded to the revelation, issuing a statement that confirmed the commencement of a new probe.
“The attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been drawn to an article in the Saturday Nation dated July 6th, 2024. The article reports that a 92-year-old man purchased the pistol that was used in the killing of Tom Mboya, a trade unionist, educator, Pan-Africanist, author, former minister, and statesman. The DCI has initiated an investigation and necessary action will be taken once the investigation is complete,” the statement read.
Tom Mboya, a key figure in Kenya’s independence movement, was assassinated in 1969. His death remains one of the most significant and controversial events in Kenyan history. The new investigation promises to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his assassination and potentially bring long-awaited justice to a case that has remained unresolved for decades.
