In a surprising turn of events, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expelled Secretary General Cleophas Malala following an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) held at the party’s headquarters earlier today.

The decision, announced this morning, comes amid ongoing internal discussions about the party’s leadership and organizational structure. The NEC’s decision to expel Malala marks a significant shake-up within the party, which has been grappling with internal strife and factional disagreements.

In the same meeting, the NEC appointed Hon. Hassan Omar Hassan as the interim Secretary General. Hassan’s appointment is effective immediately, and he will oversee the party’s operations while the UDA searches for a permanent replacement.

This move also revokes Malala’s position as  Secretary General, a position he had held for only 2 years. The reasons behind Malala’s expulsion were not immediately disclosed, but sources within the party suggest that it may be related to ongoing disputes and allegations of mismanagement.

As the UDA navigates through this period of uncertainty, all eyes will be on how Hassan handles the interim role and the subsequent steps the party will take to stabilize its leadership and address internal issues.

For now, the UDA is focused on ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining its political momentum amidst the leadership changes. The party has yet to provide a detailed statement regarding the specific reasons for Malala’s expulsion or outline the next steps in its leadership transition process.
