In a recent development, the police have dismissed claims of refusing to release the body of 12-year-old Kennedy Onyango, who tragically lost his life during anti-government protests in Ongata Rongai.
The incident has sparked controversy as the family sought to lay him to rest in Mbita.
According to Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, the officers acted on orders from the Mbita Law Court.
The deceased’s biological father, Denish Okinyi Abaga, filed a complaint challenging the burial. As a result, the burial was halted, and the body will be preserved at the Suba Sub-County Hospital Funeral Home while the family resolves the underlying dispute.
However, before the police issued their statement, comedian Eric Omondi had already shared his account of the events. In an emotional post on social media, Omondi wrote, “So we got to Homabay to bury the 12-year-old Kennedy, and just before getting to the homestead, we found a police roadblock. They took the boy. Whoever is responsible, please allow this woman to mourn in peace and allow her to bury her son. She has suffered enough.” Omondi’s plea resonated with many, highlighting the anguish faced by Kennedy’s grieving family.
This unfortunate incident highlights the tensions surrounding the burial of young Kennedy Onyango and underscores the need for clarity and sensitivity in such cases. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
