Shiners Boys High School Principal John Mwangi has recounted the events surrounding the tragic incident where a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate was fatally stabbed by a classmate.

According to Mwangi, the incident occurred on Saturday evening after the students had finished their supper.

While working in his office, he was alerted by loud screams and commotion coming from the dormitory. Acting quickly, he and other teachers rushed to investigate.

“We heard noise and had to run from our offices to the dormitory to see what was happening,” Mwangi explained.

Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, the victim, Ngugi Muciiri—a candidate with index number 29—had already been gravely injured.

He had suffered a stab wound to the lower abdomen, with injuries so severe that his intestines were exposed.

Ngugi’s mother, Eunice Nyaboke, spoke tearfully about the devastating loss of her son, expressing her shock and heartbreak.

She shared the pain of supporting a child through four years of high school, only for him to pass away just before completing his exams.

“As a parent, you nurture your child from form one to form four, expecting to celebrate their success. Then, suddenly, you get the news that your child is gone,” she said with tears in her eyes.

The principal confirmed that four students—the one who committed the stabbing and three others who were allegedly involved—are now in police custody and will face charges next week.

It was revealed that the four students had recently returned to school after a suspension due to disciplinary issues. Upon their return, they reportedly discovered that some of their personal belongings had been damaged and suspected that Ngugi was responsible. Confronting him in the dormitory, the confrontation escalated into violence, leading to the fatal stabbing.
