President William Ruto has stirred national debate after boldly declaring himself the most accomplished leader Kenya has ever had. Speaking at State House Nairobi during a meeting with leaders from Tharaka Nithi County, Ruto cited his academic credentials, political experience, and youthful energy as the foundation of his performance-driven leadership.

“I’ve served as an MP for 15 years and as Deputy President for 10. I’m not too old, I’m young and capable. Kenya has never had a President who is also a PhD holder — and that’s me,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey from humble beginnings as a roadside chicken vendor to Commander-in-Chief, Ruto emphasized that his lived experience gives him a unique understanding of the challenges ordinary Kenyans face. “I was born and raised in the grassroots. I understand Kenya’s problems. There has never been a President with my level of education, knowledge, and experience. That’s why I must perform,” he declared.
The President also claimed to embody the strengths of Kenya’s past leaders, saying, “I have Jomo Kenyatta’s courage, Moi’s understanding, Kibaki’s education, and the development plan I shared with Uhuru. With that combination, I have no excuse but to transform the nation.” His remarks came alongside the announcement of a major infrastructure project — the long-awaited reconstruction of the Nithi Bridge, which has been a notorious accident blackspot since 1985.
Online, Ruto’s comments have sparked a wave of reactions. Supporters praised his confidence and track record, while critics accused him of arrogance and political grandstanding. Some Kenyans questioned the timing of the statement, citing ongoing economic challenges and public frustration over the cost of living.
Others pointed to his controversial Affordable Housing initiative and recent protests as signs of disconnect between leadership and public sentiment.
