Kenya Power Urges Customers to Update Prepaid Token Meters by August

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has launched a nationwide campaign called “Update Token Meter Yako,” urging Kenyans to update their prepaid token meters before the August 31st, 2024 deadline. Here are the key details:

  • Why Update?: The update is crucial for uninterrupted electricity services. Failure to update meters by the deadline will result in meters not accepting new prepaid tokens.
  • How to Update:
    1. Customers will receive two codes via SMS: a reset code and an update code.
    2. To update, key in code 1 to reset and code 2 to update.
  • Total Meters: Approximately 7.4 million prepaid meters are targeted for this exercise.

KPLC aims to minimize power theft and reduce meter reading expenses by transitioning consumers to pre-paid meters.
