COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has clarified that he will not pursue legal action against Martha Karua over the use of the color purple in her newly launched People’s Liberation Party (PLP).
Speaking to the media on February 28, Atwoli emphasized that while COTU holds a patent related to the color, the union decided against suing to avoid inadvertently boosting the profile of Karua’s party.
Atwoli further stated that COTU, as a labor union, operates on a much larger scale than political parties and would not reduce itself to engaging in such disputes.
He highlighted the union’s local and international representation, underscoring its focus on workers’ welfare rather than political rivalries.
The People’s Liberation Party, which recently rebranded from Narc Kenya, adopted purple, lilac, and white as its new colors, moving away from its previous red, white, and green.
Karua described the change as a symbol of unity and a renewed commitment to justice and equality for all Kenyans.
