Following numerous complaints from motorists, bodaboda riders, and the general public about traffic police officers extorting money at the Globe Cinema roundabout in Nairobi, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) conducted investigations over several days and confirmed the allegations.

On Wednesday, 12th February 2025, the EACC mounted an operation at the roundabout and arrested three police officers from the Central Police Station who had collected bribes amounting to Kes48,250 in just 2 hours from 6:30 am.

The arrested officers are Cpl Oscar Serem Biwott (No. 84220), PC Simon Kiplagat Nyunyutik (No. 89197), and PC Edwin Benedict Mubweka (No. 82069).

The suspects were escorted to the EACC Integrity Centre to record statements and were later booked at Kilimani Police Station.

As part of strategic initiatives to address traffic corruption, the EACC has partnered with the National Police Service (NPS) to conduct a comprehensive audit of the systems and practices of the NPS to identify and seal weaknesses conducive to corruption in Kenya’s police operations.
