The U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, has faced backlash on social media, with some Kenyans calling for her resignation due to her perceived close ties with President William Ruto’s administration.

Whitman’s respond to the online criticism
In a statement released on Thursday, November 7, Whitman stood firm, reaffirming her commitment to strengthening U.S.-Kenya relations and promoting shared goals such as economic growth, security, and democratic values.
“Like all U.S. ambassadors, I serve at the request of the President,” Whitman said. “The American people have spoken, and a new President will be inaugurated in January. Meanwhile, my team and I remain focused on advancing our nations’ shared goals of increased prosperity, security, and respect for democratic values.”
Whitman expressed confidence in the resilience of the U.S.-Kenya relationship, highlighting its growth over the past six decades. She believes this strong partnership will endure, regardless of changes in U.S. leadership.
“The relationship between the United States and Kenya has matured over the past 60 years and has been supported by leaders across the political spectrum in both Washington and Nairobi. Our relations have never been stronger, and I am confident this trajectory will continue,” Whitman added.
