In a significant legal development, the High Court has certified as urgent a petition calling for the removal of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
The petition, filed by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, argues that Kanja’s appointment was unconstitutional, alleging that it bypassed a competitive recruitment process.
Senator Omtatah contends that President William Ruto used outdated security laws from 2015 to nominate and appoint Kanja, with Parliament’s subsequent approval.
This legal challenge could have major implications for the leadership of Kenya’s police force.
