Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba is facing increasing political turbulence as rejection from her constituents and online backlash intensify over her recent political stance and public confrontations. Once celebrated for her bold voice in Parliament, Wamuchomba now finds herself isolated both within her party and among the very people who elected her.
The trouble began after National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah accused Wamuchomba of being a “government project” planted to destabilize Mount Kenya’s political unity. While she dismissed the claims as “malicious,” the fallout has been swift. Residents in Githunguri have reportedly begun distancing themselves from her leadership, with some accusing her of prioritizing political theatrics over grassroots needs.
Online, the backlash has been even more brutal. Her recent suspension from Parliament and exclusion from key UDA meetings have only fueled speculation that she is being sidelined by the party’s top leadership.
In a recent interview, Wamuchomba acknowledged the hostility but remained defiant. “I will not be intimidated. I was elected to speak truth to power, and I will continue doing so, even if it means standing alone,” she said. She also accused her predecessor of sabotaging development projects in Githunguri and inciting public resentment against her leadership.
Despite her insistence on serving the people, many locals say they feel disconnected from her current political agenda. Public meetings have reportedly seen lower turnout, and some community leaders have openly questioned her relevance in the constituency’s future.
