Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua paid a visit to Chief Inspector David Karuri Maina, a police officer who tragically lost both his arms during the recent protests in Nairobi. The demonstrations were in response to the Finance Bill, 2024.
Maina is currently admitted to Nairobi West Hospital, where he is receiving medical care. The incident occurred when a teargas canister exploded, causing severe injuries to Maina and another officer.
Maina’s refusal to release a detonated canister during the protests led to the loss of both his hands. A second female officer also sustained serious chest injuries in the same incident.
While expressing support for Kenyans’ right to protest, CS Mutua cautioned against demonstrations driven solely by activism and propaganda.
The events highlight the profound impact of unrest on individuals and the broader community, emphasizing the need for tolerance, unity, and resilience during challenging times.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also visited the injured officers at the hospital. The protests disrupted businesses in Nairobi’s city center, with police engaging different groups in running battles.
As the nation reflects on this incident, we extend our thoughts and prayers to Chief Inspector David Karuri Maina and all those affected by the recent unrest.
