The Milimani Law Courts have granted the Prosecution five days to detain activist Nuru Maloba Okang’a. He will be held at Muthaiga police station to allow the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to complete investigations into allegations of publishing false information, in violation of Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No.5 of 2018.

Nuru Maloba Okang’a was arrested on June 11, 2024, at his residence in Kayole estate, a suburb of Nairobi. Following his arrest, he was taken to the DCI headquarters for interrogation before his court arraignment.

The Investigating Officer informed the court that initial investigations revealed suspicious accounts allegedly managed by Okang’a. These accounts reportedly posted malicious and false information about the Republic of Kenya and its leadership, aiming to incite public disturbance.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Kenyan authorities to address the spread of false information and maintain public order. The detention of Nuru Maloba Okang’a marks a significant development in the enforcement of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act. Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
