In a significant crackdown on examination malpractices, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Collins Kipchumba Kemboi, a 23-year-old graduate from Kenyatta University, in Nakuru’s Kiamunyi area.

Kemboi, who was operating under the alias Dorothy Jerop Kiprono, has been identified as a key figure behind the leakage of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Kemboi had amassed a substantial following, with over 78,000 subscribers on his Telegram channel and additional followers on various WhatsApp groups, where he allegedly disseminated exam materials illicitly.

The arrest, which took place on the evening of November 13, 2024, was the result of a coordinated effort between DCI officers and officials from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

During the operation, authorities seized an Infinix Hot 10 Lite phone believed to be instrumental in his fraudulent activities, along with multiple SIM cards, national IDs under different names, and a driving license.

Kemboi, who also holds employment as a salesperson for an international company, is originally from Kaseta in Sacho, Baringo County.

This arrest marks a significant blow to the syndicates involved in exam cheating, highlighting the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to maintain the integrity of national examinations.

Kemboi is expected to face charges of fraud and unauthorized possession of examination materials, with his case set for mention at the Nakuru Law Courts.
